Toycon 2022: Back With A Bang

Image
After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Philippine Toy, Hobbies, And Collectibles Convention is back on stage. And it delivers a grand experience for toy lovers once again.  Going Back To Its Roots In 2001, Toycon started as a simple gathering of toy enthusiasts at SM Megamall’s Megatrade Hall. Now, on its comeback after the pandemic, the organizers decided to return to the venue for this year.  During the last few years, Toycon has held its event at the Mall Of Asia grounds. In fact, its 2020 iteration was already set to happen at MOA before being canceled due to the lockdowns.  Thus, when I heard that they are holding the event once again at Megamall’s Megatrade Hall, I decided to come out of my own lockdown and head out. And it really felt nostalgic stepping into the Toycon halls again after two years.  Despite the con essentially starting anew, supporters came out in full force. Various corporate sponsors set up their booths at the center of the...

Likhang HABI Market Fair

Image
Who would have thought there are a lot of fabrics from around the country? Not commonly used and therefore, rarely heard of. Growing up, I’ve heard and used a few, but thanks to Likhang HABI Market Fair , I learned there’s more than Tinalac, Batik, Pina, Abaca, Cotton etc. As a crafter myself, I’d like to source for materials that are cheaper but boasts of quality equal to, if not greater than, their imported counterparts. As a crocheter, I try to find yarns that would yield wearable or usable outputs. I would locate sellers of yarns to see what kinds they use and where they are from. The ones i end up buying were said to be outsourced from Taiwan, unknowing that there are also cotton threads that can be sourced locally, and if spooled into the preferred thickness, they could be as good as the ones i’m used to buying. This coming October 11th to 13th, the 9th Likhang HABI Market Fair will be held at the Glorietta 3 Activity Center. I hope to go there at least once to learn...

ToyCon 2019: Of Toys, Idols, and… A Giant Batman?

Image
Event Coverage by Roger Decierdo It was a different ToyCon for me this year. I went on the last day (a Sunday) instead of the usual second day. And there were many new things that made this year’s Philippine Toy, Hobbies, and Collectibles Convention another great experience. A world of toys ToyCon has always been about toys and ToyCon 2019 was no different, with many of the major manufacturers being represented. Brands like Kotobukiya, Bandai, XM Studios, and Good Smile Company even had their own booths showcasing their latest releases. I was hoping to grab one of those GSC exclusive figures but that was already sold out. Not to be outdone, Pinoy pop culture brands also showed their stuff. The  Ravelo estate and ABS-CBN unveiled the new Ravelo Komiks Universe brand. This line showcased a variety of collectibles, including action figures of popular characters Darna, Lastikman, and Captain Barbell. While these are limited-run items,...

18th TOYCON PH – Where Asia Comes to Play! Event Coverage by Andrea

Image
ToyConPH has been around since 2001, and for me and my friends, it has become an annual thing to go to at least once in its 3-day affair. Toy collectors and enthusiasts alike would agree, if there's one thing that makes ToyConPH the way it is, is that ToyCon PH stays true to what it stood for when it began. It started as a toys, comics and pop culture convention, and guess what it has become now? The very same. Staying true to itself gave it the strength to stay standing still despite the numerous attempts by others to take it down. While there are others that try to create drama, ToyConPH has probably learned to just shake it off, or it has just been that sturdy an institution that it didn't make a dent at all to its spirit. I bet my friends would agree, ToyConPH is one of those things that brings us together, a reason for us to see each other despite our busy schedules. For us it is one of those good things in life we are lucky to have.

Editor : It's been 18 years and Glamour Moments team is excited to cover another year of Toycon! We've been supporting this event and each year we are so proud for this institution in providing the best of the pop culture environment. They said there are rooms for improvement and I saw how it all started. From the small room in Megamall to Megatrade Hall and now at their new playground in SMX Mall of Asia. I've been also attending pop culture and comic conventions here in USA but attending Toycon in the Philippines is different: I am missing my Toycon family and friends, the chaos in the line, craziness and explosive revelations on last minute, ingress/egress, going home late, waking up early the next 2 days, toy hunting, and the Filipino food sold in the booth! LOL My team is ready for another adventure so please do follow our Facebook page - Glamour Moments and this blog for exclusive coverage and our personal insights about the event. Btw, I already met Ron Eng...

Happy Andrada - Spring/Summer 2020 Bridal CollectionLaunch #happysummerhappy

Image
Happy Andrada launched her 2020 Bridal Dressing Robes collection on May 4th at her atelier. One might wonder what's the dressing robe for, or why does a collection need to be made. I'd say wait until you see them. Not only they were for Wedding day preparations, they can be used again, for any occasion for that matter. These robes are made of imported laces, silks, tulle. It's flowy, dreamy, classy, soft, name it. Black dress on an emerald robe, nude colored dress on a powder blue, light pink or even a white dressing robe. As I've mentioned before, they aren't only for wedding day preparations. If you are anything like me who'd always go for the simplest dresses whenever an occasion arises, with a robe from her collection, you can step it up a notch from simple to semi formal, even actually formal. It can pass for a gown should you wear a simple dress underneath it, especially if the colors match or blends. Black dress on an emerald...

LG Launches Laundry Love

Image
On National Women’s Month, LG empowers alpha-males to do the family laundry with LG washers Even with more women joining the workforce, studies have shown that a bulk of the housework is still relegated to the women. This is known as “the second shift” , where the family structures are still holding on to traditional roles in gender equality with regard to the chores that the women are still expected to do. One of them is the laundry. This takes up so much time and energy that women often feel that they no longer have time to take care of themselves. Aside from the stereotypes that many Filipinos grew up with, where it was the norm to leave all the homecare duties to the women, another reason that men give as to why they don’t help out is that they don’t know how to do the household tasks properly. Launches Laundry Love. From L-R: Actor/model Eric ‘Eruption’ Tai, LGEPH-Washing Machine Product Marketing Manager Ms. Cel Anolin, LGEPH VP-Home Appliances Mr. Woo Young Jeon, ...
