Mission Accomplished: Meet the Cake Boss

Image
TLC Festival 2017 happened on November 4th. If I'm not mistaken, it was the third year of the said event. I went the first year, skipped the next, and went again this year. Both times I attended, I had only one purpose: meet the Cake Boss himself, Buddy Valastro. I wasn't successful that first time because I went too early and got so bored, so I left before Buddy Valastro made an appearance. Don't mistake the event as boring though. There were a lot of booths there that offer different workshops as well as stores and kiosks. I managed to snag a spot on the calligraphy workshop but failed to get on the pottery class. After the workshop and going around, I got bored and sleepy (I haven't slept that day yet) so I left and went to my aunt's house that's nearby the Bonifacio High Street where the event took place. Flash forward to the event this year, I'm now armed with the knowledge that I might get bored since I didn't sign up for workshops this ti...

117th Annual Feast of Maria SS. Lauretana - Italian Festival in Niles,Illinois

Image
One of the oldest festival running in the Chicagoland area is Maria SS. Lauretana or mostly know as "Volata" or "Flight of the Angels," some also called one of the largest Italian festival, a tradition held in Chicago by Italian-American community. The festival takes place on Golf Mill Park in Niles over Labor Day weekend, a four day event of religious feast and entertainment. It was my first time to witness this 117 year old tradition and one of the festival highlight is the Flight of the Angels and a group of men will carry the Vera (an old wooden altar with Virgin Mary) and pulling of a large ship during procession. At the end of the procession, two young girls dressed like angels will fly over the crowd (both are tied and secured to fly high above) and will offer a prayer (Italian religious song). In 1600s, an image of Virgin Mary was looted by pirates. While traveling to Sicilian coast, the pirates found the painting in a barrel. Because they bel...

Not your ordinary cup of tea

Image
I received a registered mail from the Philippines! It was sent in August probably the US customs checked the contents because the envelope was slightly opened and am thankful that the stuff inside was completely intact and unharmed. I am so excited to try the tea samples that my friend gave me. I really love tea and I love the "animated" designs of these tea packets! These are really different teas from what I heard from my friends because these are made of blended flavors so you'll be impressed when you taste it. Karel Capek , an Original tea blend created and mastered by Utako Yamada. From what I read from their Facebook page in One Tap Lifestyle, Utako Yamada is a popular illustrator/author of children books and she was inspired to "invent" different flavors of tea. Aside from that, the designs of each tea packets captured the hearts of many female tea lovers -- like me! I also researched online that she also designed a merchandise for Sanrio (I sti...

Summer in Chicago Part 1 - Visiting the new Nutella Cafe in ChicagoDowntown

Image
Are you a Nutella fan like me? If yes , then you'll enjoy reading this first part of my blog post. We visited the first standalone Nutella Cafe in Chicago along Michigan Avenue and Lake. The cafe is owned and operated by the Nutella makers, Ferrero USA. We have been to Nutella kiosk in Eataly (Ohio Street Chicago) and this is much different because the cafe menu has sandwiches, salads, fruits, gelato, coffee, crepes, muffins and a lot more. The entrance door is shaped like a Nutella jar, you can easily see the signage from outside because of its color combination of black and red in "Nutella" logo and white background. There was a line outside and slowly moving towards the counter where you can see the menu and their busy open kitchen. They are also giving away menu brochures so that you can decide on what to order. My agenda on that day is to taste their Nutella gelato because am really a big fan of gelato! From breads, oatmeal, fruits and crepes - everyth...

Drink Tea to Eliminate Belly Fat

Image
If you are trying to eliminate the jiggle around your waistline, tea may be a smart addition to our diet and abs workout program according to researches. Although drinking tea may not make belly fats magically dissolve immediately, believe me, it may help enhance the results. Since the beginning of this summer season, I also started working out to at least reduce my belly fats, and I’m serious this time, really. [caption id="attachment_11424" align="aligncenter" width="640"] One Top Lifestyle Tea[/caption] And since I am very eager to dispose my excess fats, I have been researching for ways on how to eliminate that jiggle around my waistline. And, based on my research, I found out that other than red wine before bed time, tea is also one of the best ways to aid in your weight lost program and I think it’s effective. However, my biggest problem is that I am not really used into drinking tea as I am a coffee addict, and I am not sure if I would love the tas...

New and it's FDA Approved: Wheatgrass Lemon

Image
Our new product is here! Wheatgrass is a good blood builder, anti-bacterial and good for digestion. And don't we ALL just love Lemon, with its tangy, sour taste and fresh/perky smell! The lemon is a rich source of nutrients like calcium, potassium, vitamin C and pectin fibre. Like wheatgrass, it has medicinal values and antibacterial properties. Drinking wheatgrass with lemon regularly will help in removing overall acidity in the body including uric acid which causes pain and inflammation in the joints. Let's keep building up our pH balance. My visit to Hello Kitty Dessert Bar in SM North EDSA - Philippines

Image
I went to the Philippines for a two week short vacation and it's a must to block my schedule to visit Hello Kitty Dessert Bar in SM North EDSA . It was a gloomy friday when we traveled from Cavite to North side of Metro, the traffic was so bad early in the morning and we need to get back to Cavite before afternoon rush hour. Weeks ago, Hello Kitty Cafe truck visited Midwest USA (Illinois) and we lined up for two hours to grab yummy Hello Kitty treats. I am very eager to drag myself early morning to be able to complete my mission. Fortunately, when we arrived in SM North EDSA's Prime Block (3rd Floor) the store was empty so we went ahead and ordered different treats like doughnuts, tiramisu, coffee and shakes (with Hello Kitty faces & Sanrio gang on icings, toppings and coffee design). As we were waiting for our orders, we took snapshots of the shop's pink Hello Kitty facade and tons of selfie. White and pink tables complemented the 'kawaiiness' atmosphere thoug...

Jollibee: Filipino fast food chain opens in Skokie, Illinois

Image
The first Filipino fast food chain made its debut on July 29 in Midwest. Located in the Touhy Marketplace shopping center (3534 Touhy Avenue), its opening day was a jampacked and we were lucky that we don't have to wait that long when we went last weekend. The lines continue to develop and people keep coming in from different places. I know people drove hours for Jollibee . That's how we love Jollibee. Everyone is patiently waiting just to take home our favorite chickenjoy, burgers and halo-halo. Unfortunately, burger steak is not available until August 15. Jollibee's menu is quite different from the Philippines because the store serves halo-halo. It won't matter if we want an hour or more just to taste our local dishes. I've read online and non-Filipinos were curious why there were so many people lining outside, some recommended they should try it and we would love to hear your feedback about our food. If you were watching Anthony Bourdain's show in CNN - Parts...

Hello Kitty Chocolate Toy Surprise - Mystery Box 1

Image
I went to the mall last Friday to buy some food and I stumbled upon this Hello Kitty choco toy surprise. There are 12 toys hiding in a chocolate coated egg shaped container with 1 mystery toy awaiting inside. I only bought 1 since I am not into collecting small Hello Kitty stuff, just for curiosity and I don't want to spend much $ on this (FOCUS). Toys included are small plastic Hello Kitty figures, keychains, and puzzles. The box inside contains 1 Hello Kitty Egg, so wait until I open the foil to check out what's inside: Here's what i got! A Hello Kitty small figure. This can be placed on top of your PC desktop monitor. After opening the foil, you have to break the chocolate coated egg to get the toy which was hidden inside of a pink plastic egg. The only disappointment on this was it was too hard to open the plastic egg. Also, for health reasons - you may also thought that this might be dangerous because the plastic egg is coated with chocolate. It may be also a choking h...
