With the Yuletide season being a reason for many of us to buy the newest and latest gadgets and toys, it also becomes a time when we’re able to take stock of all that we have and realize how blessed we truly are.  Caring and sharing comes naturally, as we reach out to friends and family to give them little tokens of our love and appreciation.  We also reach out to those who have less in life, through personal acts of kindness so they could have a merry Christmas as well.

Inspired by this instinct of compassion of Filipinos, Sony Philippines is calling on the help of its customers to support two groups that aim to uplift the education of the Filipino youth.  The global leader is partnering with the Knowledge Foundation and the Hands On Manila (HOM) Foundation in the innovative Project Big Switch, taking place from November 19-21, 2010.  Sony is gathering its customers’ old but functional CRT TVs to be given to these partner organizations, by giving discounts on purchases of 32-inch BRAVIA LCD TVs and bundling these with free Sony DVD players.

The Knowledge Channel Foundation is a non-stock, non-profit foundation geared towards educating and empowering poor and marginalized children through media so that they realize their full potential to best serve themselves and their communities, and help build a better world.

Meanwhile, HOM is part of the international Hands On Network, an international alliance of organizations with the mission of encouraging and effectively channeling the volunteer impulse.  It has a roster of volunteer programs with partner non-profit organizations that support education.

For the Project Big Switch weekend, you can bring your 21 to 34-inch CRT TV to the LOOP, ABS-CBN Compound, GF ELJ Communications Center, Eugenio Lopez St., Quezon City to get it inspected and verified as working by a Sony Service Center technician.  You can then purchase a brand new 32-inch BRAVIA LCD TV with a free DVD player for as low as PhP 20,999   This will proceed from 9 am and closing at 5 pm each day.

This three-day trade-in event aims to warm your heart as well and make your pocket feel better as well. Payment options include cash, straight credit card charge, or 12 months 0% interest to cover the full amount of the BRAVIA being purchased.

The CRT TVs you will trade-in will be given to the Knowledge Channel and HOM, who will then deliver them to struggling schools nationwide.  Educational content and satellite dishes for schools off the grid will be bundled with the CRT TVs.  These are meant to enable teachers have access to curriculum-based materials that will visually demonstrate core subjects like Math, Science, and English to their students.   This simple solution has been proven to have elevated the level of education in the beneficiary schools, as the students were able to deliver higher results in standardized national exams.

By simply making the choice to switch your CRT TV into a BRAVIA LCD TV, you are joining a movement that will create a better future for the country, one school at a time.
