Upclose: LR Lancero - Asia Pacific Hockey Summit

Lenard Rigel Torreno Lancero II or LR Lancero, a 15 year old ice hockey player from Bacoor, Cavite, and the youngest ice hockey player on the Under18 Division, made it to the North American Hockey League prospects through the Boston Junion Rangers which is owned b Mr Michael Condon, the commissioner and founder of Asia Pacific Hockey League (APHL). Mr Condon saw the potentials of LR and brought him to train with the Boston JR Rangers. With the outstanding performance LR shows on and off the rink, he then became an official Boston Jr Ranger hockey player.

At the young age of 3, he started swinging sticks and shooting pucks at the the age of 5. With the enthusiasm and energy he shows at the rink, LR became the crowd favorite. On 2004, he joined Manila Tigers, one of the hockey clubs here in the Philippines. From then on he won several awards and most of them are MVP titles.

Why hockey among any other sports? LR said, I really did not choose the sport ice hockey, the sport fell on me. I loved it ever since.

To introduce Ice Hockey as sport in the Philippines, witness the first Asian hockey teams to participate in the upcoming Asia Pacific Hockey Summit on August 2011 to be held at sM Ice Skating Rink at the SM Mall of Asia. Its objective is to raise the level of hockey across Asia by providing a framework for development and regularly scheduled games hence giving players the ability to develop and test their skills.

The event is a combination of tournament and training initiated by the Asia Pacific Hockey League commissioner and founder Mr Michael Condon. The tournament portion of the Summit will have a 25 to 30 game schedule and will match teams by age and experience with member teams in the U10, U12, U14, U16, U18 and U20 age groups. The training will be provided by the American Warrior Hockey Schools Asia for hockey players, coaches and on ice officials.

Trainees will receive on and off ice instructions and is supplemented with take home materials. Classes will also be offered for individuals interested in becoming scorekeepers. Camp will be set for specific age groups and will be offered on a monthly or quarterly basis, depending on demand.
