1.Smart Gilas Pilipinas: Filipinos closely followed the Philippine basketball team’s quest for a chance to play in the 2012 London Olympics as it competed in the FIBA-Asia Championship, Asia’s qualifying tournament for the Summer Olympic Games. Yahoo! Philippines users searched for the results of Smart Gilas’ matches leading up to the finals. After its defeat to Jordan in the semifinals, the Philippine team played against South Korea for the bronze medal and a slot in the final Olympic qualifier. While the game ended the Philippines’ 2012 Olympic basketball dream, it was the country’s best finish since 1987.
While Smart Gilas was battling the South Korean basketball team in China, the Philippine Volcanoes national rugby team was competing with Japan for the gold medal in the Asian Men’s Rugby 7s Championships in Malaysia. The Volcanoes had to settle for a silver, but their feat earned them a slot in the Hong Kong 7s in March next year.

Police said the two boys were in a romantic relationship after meeting on Facebook, and the younger boy shot the other in a fit of jealousy.
