Janna Dominguez, Vannesa Hudgens, Bea Binene, Rica Peralejo topped the trending searches last week followed by GMA and Dengue. Nothing beats the issue of CCP and its controversial kulto art. Meanwhile, am still curious of what is PLANKING all about, is it a serious matter?    1. Cultural Center of the Philippines: The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is being criticized for housing the controversial Kulo art exhibit which includes Mideo Cruz’ mixed-media collage, Poletismo. The exhibition features election campaign posters, photos of national heroes and movie idols, religious images with condoms and Jesus Christ with a movable wooden penis. The CCP eventually closed down following a public outrage and vandalism.

   2. Janna Dominguez: After admitting that she is now in a relationship with Mickey Ablan, the former boyfriend of fellow Kapuso actress Iwa Moto, Janna Dominguez has spiked on Yahoo! Search last week. On August 7, Janna was the guest on the Correct or Reject segment of Showbiz Central, and when asked if Mickey Ablan is her boyfriend, she answered, “Correct.” Janna, who started on television as a contestant on ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Fear Factor, said she and Mickey started bonding on Facebook when they were both broken-hearted.

   3. William Jones Cup: The Philippines’ national basketball team, Smart Gilas Pilipinas, placed third in the William Jones Cup 2011. Last Sunday, the Filipino shooters defeated host Chinese Taipei, 82-72, to bring home the bronze medal. Meanwhile, Iran won against Korea and claimed its third straight championship in the tournament.

   4. Vanessa Hudgens: Filipino-American actress Vanessa Hudgens changed her look for a role she plays in the movie Gimme Shelter, which is based on a true story about a pregnant, homeless girl in a teen shelter. She also recently launched her official website that received much interest from her fans. Meanwhile, Vanessa’s ex-boyfriend Zac Efron also trended on Yahoo! and Twitter after a fake nude photo of him circulated online.

   5. Bea Binene: Aside from being in the cast of the movie Tween Academy: Class of 2012, Kapuso tween star Bea Binene will also star in the upcoming afternoon drama series Pahiram ng Isang Ina with Jhake Vargas. Bea plays an orphan who competes for the love of her adopted mother from the real son Jhake. In real life, Bea is blessed to have a mother, but her father left home on Father’s Day and Bea does not know his whereabouts, though she texts him from time to time.

   6. Rica Peralejo: The showbiz star, who has been out of the limelight for some time, remains a favorite among Yahoo! Search users. In a recent interview with Yahoo OMG!, Rica said she doesn’t mind being obscure from public view. She admitted that showbiz caused her much pain, but she remains thankful to her fans for their support. Now a literature student at the Ateneo de Manila, Rica recently went back to acting via ABS-CBN’s 100 Days to Heaven. She is married to Pastor Joseph Bonifacio, who also trended on Yahoo! a few days ago.

   7. Christian Bautista: Popular singer Christian Bautista’s first international movie, “Special Symphony,” which was produced in Indonesia, opened in the Philippines on August 3. It tells the story of a struggling Filipino singer and discusses the plight of special children. Christian, who was on location in Singapore for TV production Kitchen Musical flew home for the movie’s Manila premiere.

   8. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo:  Former president and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has been confined at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City since July 25. A second surgery on the pinched nerve in her spine reportedly failed and the healing masses have been held for her since the past weekend. Arroyo, who is accused of rigging the 2004 presidential elections, is facing a series of plunder cases and remains on immigration watch list.

   9. Planking: Months after an Australian man fell to his death after planking on the railings of a seventh-floor balcony, the Internet fad continues to spike on Yahoo! Search.  The action of lying face down with arms to the sides of the body in public spaces and photographing it, took off when an Australian rugby league star planked on the ground on live television and later repeated the stunt on a television anchor’s desk.

  10. Dengue: Dengue outbreak spiked on Yahoo! Search but the good news is that of the 45,333 reported cases this year, it has seen over 30% reduction from those reported in the same period last year, stated a report by The Department of Health (DOH). The DOH Assistant Secretary Eric Tayag said a dengue vaccine may be available before its 2014 target release.
